Penetration Testing Services

Verrant runs penetration testing services for regulated cloud SaaS companies facing a security review, an audit, or an enterprise questionnaire. Our senior engineers test the software your business runs on, find what scanners miss, and stay through remediation until every finding is fixed and re-tested. You leave with an auditor-ready result and a stronger security posture.

Where This Starts

Where Fast-Shipping Cloud Products Get Caught

Shipping a cloud product under a deadline leaves security gaps that a scanner run or a checklist review will not surface, and that an attacker or an auditor will. These are the situations that bring teams to us.

01

A stalled enterprise deal waiting on a security review

The questionnaire asks about your penetration testing program: who ran it, how recent it is, and whether the report is available. Right now, you do not have a clean answer. The deal waits until you do.

02

An audit that needs human-attested testing of the product

SOC 2, ISO 27001, and HIPAA want evidence that someone attempted to exploit the vulnerabilities found and recorded what actually happened. A compliance platform's automated scan alone does not give an auditor that.

03

Scanner output nobody can act on

A list of severity scores with no remediation path means the security weaknesses never get fixed. You paid for a report, and the security risks are still live.

04

Complex cloud architecture the generic test skips

Multi-tenant isolation, serverless, GraphQL, and AI model infrastructure break an off-the-shelf checklist. That is where real exposure tends to hide.

Services

Penetration Testing Across Your Whole Software Stack

Our pen testing services are scoped to the systems you run. We test the software and logical layer end to end.

01

Web application penetration testing

We test authentication and authorization, session and tenant isolation, and business-logic abuse in your web apps and the APIs behind them.

Outcome

You know whether a session can be hijacked across tenants, or a workflow abused, before an attacker or an auditor finds it.

02

Cloud penetration testing

We probe the cloud infrastructure: IAM, misconfiguration, privilege escalation, multi-tenant boundaries, and paths to sensitive data.

Outcome

A misconfigured role or a crossed tenant boundary gets found and fixed before it is the reason your audit stalls.

03

API penetration testing

We assess your REST and GraphQL APIs for broken object-level authorization, rate-limiting gaps, and replay handling.

Outcome

Broken authorization and replay risks in your API get closed before they become an incident.

04

Mobile application penetration testing

We test the mobile client and its backend API together, the way they are used in production.

Outcome

You know the mobile client and its backend hold up together under real attacker behavior, before a release ships.

05

Network infrastructure penetration testing

We map your organization's network from the inside out: internal networks, external-facing services, segmentation, and lateral movement.

Outcome

Lateral movement from a single foothold gets mapped and shut down before it reaches anything that matters.

06

Social engineering

We run phishing and human-layer testing that mirrors how attackers actually get in, under rules of engagement you agree in advance.

Outcome

You find out exactly how your team responds to a live phishing attempt.

07

Penetration testing of AI systems, models, and agents

We run adversarial testing of the AI inside your product: prompt injection, agent tool and permission abuse, model manipulation, insecure output handling, and RAG data exposure.

Outcome

You walk into an enterprise customer's AI-governance review with the prompt-injection and agent-manipulation gaps already closed.

Process

How We Run a Penetration Test, and Stay Until It's Fixed

The process is scoped to your architecture, and it does not end at the report.

Scoping and threat modeling

We map the real attack surface and architecture to identify vulnerabilities worth chasing, and agree the rules of engagement, before any testing starts.

Manual, senior-led penetration testing

Manual penetration testing is roughly 80% of the work: we map the potential attack vectors and exploit vulnerabilities by hand, the way an attacker would. A human validates every finding before it reaches you, and AI accelerates triage and coverage.

Prioritized, remediation-ready reporting

The final report is prioritized remediation guidance a developer can act on – stripped of false positives, each finding paired with the fix that closes it, so your team can address vulnerabilities in priority order.

Remediation support and free re-test

Re-test included. One re-test within 60 days of the report confirms each fix closes the finding. Need hands on the fixes themselves – code review, IAM, pipeline hardening? That is the Remediation Retainer, scoped alongside the test.

Standards

Testing That Maps to OWASP, CREST, and Your Audit

Findings and reporting map to the industry standards your auditor and your enterprise customer already recognize, so the report works as evidence.

OWASP, PTES, and NIST SP 800-115

Testing follows OWASP for web and API work and aligns to PTES and NIST SP 800-115, so findings map to known classes an auditor can trace.

CREST accreditation

CREST accreditation means an independent body has audited our testing methodology, our quality controls, and the competency of the people running the test, against a recognized industry standard. That is why auditors and enterprise procurement teams treat it as a checkbox: the report already carries verified credibility they would otherwise have to check themselves.

Evidence for SOC 2, ISO 27001, HIPAA, and PCI DSS

The report is written to serve as the human-attested testing evidence these compliance requirements ask for. PCI DSS requires annual penetration testing, and SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001 expect regular penetration testing of your security controls. We produce the testing evidence, and your auditor or QSA signs off the audit itself.

Who We Serve

Built for Teams Facing an Audit, an Enterprise Deal, or an AI Launch

We work with the security leaders and security teams who own these decisions, and every one of them has a named external force pushing them to act now. See which one is yours.

01

SaaS companies with a stalled enterprise deal

A security review or questionnaire is holding up a signature, and the buyer wants your security strategy and the name of who tests your product.

02

Teams facing a SOC 2, ISO 27001, or HIPAA audit

The auditor wants hands-on security assessments of the product, on a timeline that holds.

03

Product teams shipping fast without dedicated AppSec

Release pressure or a breach scare exposed the gap in your security measures, and there is no in-house team to raise your security maturity.

04

Companies shipping AI features into regulated or enterprise deals

An LLM feature or an autonomous agent needs adversarial testing before an enterprise customer's AI-governance questions land.

Critical Vulnerabilities Closed Before Exploitation

Challenge

Critical vulnerabilities across the cloud, mobile, and web surfaces needed to surface before an attacker found them first.

Service

  • Senior testers ran a PTES- and OWASP-aligned penetration test across cloud, mobile, and web
  • Mapped the real attack vectors and exploited findings by hand, the way an attacker would
  • Delivered findings prioritized and remediation-ready for a developer to act on

Outcome

  • Critical vulnerabilities surfaced and closed before exploitation
  • The engagement converted into an ongoing testing retainer
  • The client moved from a one-off test to continuous coverage on every release

Clear Visibility into Where the New AI Agent Was Exposed

Challenge

Years of OWASP-standard web and API testing had cleared the platform's SOC 2 baseline. Then the client added an LLM claims-intake agent that ingested untrusted input and directly influenced payout decisions.

Service

  • Continued OWASP-standard web and API testing against the platform's existing baseline
  • Identified that standard penetration testing did not cover prompt injection, agent manipulation, or insecure output handling
  • Mapped that gap against the platform's new AI-specific exposure before signing off on anything

Outcome

  • Clear, evidenced visibility into exactly where the new AI agent was exposed
  • The client avoided scaling a decision-bearing AI feature on an unproven security assumption

Why Verrant

We Stay Until the Finding Is Closed

Verrant stays on an engagement until the finding is closed. Our testers came from inside the engineering teams that build products like yours, and that background shows up in every report we hand you.

Findings a developer can merge

Our findings arrive as PR-review-grade guidance a developer can merge. We stay on the engagement through remediation, until each finding is closed and the fix is verified.

We stay to fix it

A report that sits in a drive doesn't make you more secure. Our engineers pair with yours through the fix (code review, IAM, pipeline hardening) and re-test until the finding is closed, with fixes merging within 60–90 days. That's where most alternatives stop: report delivered, nothing closed.

Honest about timelines and risk

We hold to the date we give you, and we say so plainly if a finding needs more time to close right. We won't inflate a risk just to stretch the engagement. You get what the testing actually found, and a realistic plan to fix it.

Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

What is included in a penetration testing service, and what do we get at the end?

You get manual, senior-led testing of the systems in scope and a prioritized, remediation-ready report, plus remediation support and a re-test that confirms the fixes hold. The deliverable is an auditor-ready result you can hand to a reviewer.

How much does penetration testing cost?

Cost tracks scope: the number of surfaces, how complex the architecture, and how deep the engagement goes. A fixed price would mean little before we understand your stack, so we scope it with you first.

Across the market, penetration testing typically starts around $5,000 for a focused, single-scope test and runs up to $150,000 for a large, multi-surface engagement. For regulated industries, complex architectures, or multi-role, multi-tenant scope, that starts closer to $10,000. If the cheapest option is what you need, a lighter-weight scan fits better than a manual penetration test. Where a Verrant engagement lands depends on scope: the number of surfaces, the complexity of the architecture, and the depth of testing. We scope that with you directly.

How long does a penetration test take?

The timeline tracks scope, and we set it with you before testing starts. A single-surface test (one web application with its APIs, or one mobile app with its backend) typically runs two to three weeks from kickoff to report. A multi-surface engagement (web, mobile, and cloud infrastructure together, with several user roles and tenants) runs four to six weeks. The exact window is in the test plan you approve, with the report date on it.

Will the testing disrupt our production systems?

No. We agree rules of engagement up front – what is in scope, what is off-limits, and when we test – so testing does not take production down.

Is the testing manual or automated?

Roughly 80% manual. Automation supports triage and coverage, and a human validates every finding before it reaches you. No, AI has not replaced penetration testers.

What is the difference between a penetration test and a vulnerability scan?

A vulnerability assessment or scan uses automated tools to flag known weaknesses, and it does not prove whether they can be exploited. A penetration test has a person exploit the findings to show real business impact – and we sell the test, not a standalone scan.

Do you retest after we fix the findings?

Yes. The re-test is included: we confirm each fix closes the finding and keeps it closed.

Which systems do you test, and what is out of scope?

We test the software and logical layer: web, cloud, API, mobile, network infrastructure, social engineering, and AI systems, models, and agents. Hardware and physical access are out of scope, and for a medical product we test the software around the device, never the device itself.

Do you test AI features, agents, and models?

Yes. We run adversarial testing of the AI in your product – prompt injection, agent tool abuse, model manipulation, and insecure output handling. For a dedicated engagement, see AI Security Services.

Are your penetration tests CREST-accredited and accepted by auditors?

Yes. Verrant is the cybersecurity practice of TechMagic, a software engineering company shipping cloud products since 2014, now operating under its own name as it becomes a separate practice. Every engagement is contracted through TechMagic, which holds the CREST accreditation, and delivered by the same team. Every report is built to pass an auditor or an enterprise security review.
